TRIVIA FOR A SHIRT WINNER

April 3, 2006 – George W. Bush became the first sitting president ever to throw out an Opening Day first pitch in Cincinnati and only the second sitting president to participate in that pre-game ceremony there.  President Richard M. Nixon threw out the first pitch prior to the 1970 All-Star Game at Riverfront Stadium.  Cincinnati native William Howard Taft is the only other sitting president ever to attend a game in Cincinnati.

For correctly answering, @ShrekDeesal is this week’s winner of a brand new Better Off Red limited edition t-shirt.

Don’t fret, we’ll play again next week!

TRIVIA FOR A SHIRT WINNER

May 31, 1982: The Reds lose to the Phillies, 5-4, in 13 innings at Veterans Stadium in a game punctuated by a bench-clearing brawl.  After six innings of pitching, Mario Soto had allowed no runs and only one hit, but he angered the Phillies by plunking Bob Dernier and Mike Schmidt.  In the seventh inning, Phillies pitcher Ron Reed retaliated by hitting Soto with a pitch.  Soto started toward the mound, bat in hand.  Teammates restrained Soto, but Dave Concepcion found Reed, and threw a several punches.  Concepcion, Soto and Reed were all ejected.  Joe Price relieved Soto and pitched two hitless innings before he was pounded for four runs in the ninth to all the Phillies to tie the score.  Philadelphia added a run in the 13th off Bob Shirley for the win. Excited yet?

…..
