#REDS MINOR LEAGUE SPOTLIGHT

Juan Dorado checks in with this week’s Reds Minor League Spotlight!

With the minor league season ending this weekend, the Cincinnati Reds affiliates went 19-19 to end another strong week.

Unfortunately, one of those losses came in the semifinals of the AZL playoffs as the AZL Reds fell to the AZL Mariners 8-1 on Wednesday night. The Reds finished the second half with an AZL best 20-8 record, but fell one game short of reaching the finals. Pitchers Wennington Romero and Dauri Moreta were named to the AZL All-Star team on Tuesday. Romero went 3-3 with 1.93 ERA in 10 games while Moreta posted a 2.05 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 30.2 innings.

While the AZL Reds playoff chase ended the Billings Mustangs and Pensacola Blue Wahoos prepare for their postseason run.

Pensacola is clicking on all cylinders, going 6-1 last week. The Blue Wahoos won four straight over the Jacksonville Suns behind the strong bat of Brandon Dixon. The utility player hit .400 (10-for-25) with three doubles, one triple, two homers and six RBI. Sal Romano tossed eight scoreless innings on 8/30 vs Jacksonville. He finished the month of August with a 2-1 record and 1.83 ERA.

Billings is reeling, losing five straight and posting a 2-5 mark last week. Despite their down week, Michael Beltre had a big week for the Mustangs. The third baseman hit .409 (9-for-22) with four doubles, two homers and five RBI. Billings will face Great Falls in the playoffs, who own a 6-9 mark against the Voyagers.

Daytona had their postseason dreams end this past week as they went 2-4. The offense was brilliant last week, as they had three players with batting averages over .450 last week. Juan Duran led the way with a .476 (10-for-21) with a homer and nine RBI while Shed Long hit .471 (8-for-17) and Gavin LaValley batted .455 (10-for-22).

Louisville and Dayton round out the group as they were eliminated from playoff contention in early August. The Bats turned in a good week, going 4-3 while the Dragons went 2-4. Robert Stephenson turned in his best outing of the season on Wednesday night, throwing seven innings of 1-run baseball while striking out 7 batters vs Charlotte. Stephenson was not the only top prospect to have a big week, Nick Senzel hit .444 (8-for-18) with four doubles and four RBI.
