Way to go, J.J.!

RHP J.J. Hoover has been named Reds nominee for the 2016 Roberto Clemente Award!  Hoover is one of the 30 Club finalists for the annual award, which recognizes a Major League Baseball player who best represents the game of baseball through positive contributions on and off the field, including sportsmanship and community involvement.

The Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevrolet pays tribute to Clemente’s achievements and character by recognizing current players who truly understand the value of helping others.

J.J. has committed to giving back to the community and is looking to expand on his family’s connection to become more involved with the Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky and the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.  Hoover is aware of the importance of giving back to Reds Country, the same community that has given so much to him.

The Reds will host a pregame ceremony when the team returns to town on Thursday, September 24 recognizing J.J. as the club’s nominee. A $7,500 donation from Chevrolet will be made to the Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky in J.J.’s honor.

Beginning Wednesday, September 16th (Roberto Clemente Day), fans are encouraged to vote for J.J. Hoover to win the prestigious Clemente Award and register for a chance to win a trip to the 2015 World Series on ChevyBaseball.com.

Congratulations and good luck to the Reds’ Skip Schumaker!

Thousands of baseball fans participated in an Internet poll on http://www.MLBPLAYERS.com between September 10 and 13, to determine which players inspire others to higher levels of achievement by their on-field performances and contributions to their communities.

From this list of 30 players, Adam Jones (Baltimore Orioles) was tabbed to represent the AL East, Miguel Cabrera (Detroit Tigers) and David Robertson (Chicago White Sox) – TIE – the AL Central, Robinson Cano (Seattle Mariners) the AL West, Dee Gordon (Miami Marlins) the NL East, Skip Schumaker (Cincinnati Reds) the NL Central and Justin Turner (LA Dodgers) the NL West.

These seven players will have their names placed on the 2015 Players Choice Awards ballot to determine this season’s Marvin Miller Man of the Year award winner. 2015 Players Choice Awards ballots will be distributed to all Major League players on Wednesday, September 16, when the accounting firm of KPMG conducts the league-wide, players-only voting.
