Congratulations to Linda Kammerer, who was randomly selected as the winner of yesterday’s Better Off Red contest!
Linda wins a mystery bobblehead and a virtual hug.
More BOR contests coming soon, so stay tuned!
I’m sure by now you’ve seen what happened in last night’s game in which both Joey Votto and Bryan Price were ejected by homeplate umpire Bill Welke.
Here’s what Price had to say to the media immediately after the game…
Votto today is celebrating his 32nd birthday! Here’s a great story on him by MLB.com columnist Phil Rogers.
The Reds are trying to play the role of spoiler in the final month of the 2015 season – 17 of their final 24 games are against teams currently eligible for the Postseason (7g vs StL, 4g vs NYM, 3g vs Chi & 3g vs Pit).
The Reds are hoping LHP John Lamb brings them success tonight against the Cardinals. St. Louis is batting .263 as a team this season against righties, compared to .232 vs. Lefties.
Congratulations to the Reds High-A affiliate Daytona Tortugas for completing the 2-game sweep last night over Clearwater and advancing to the Florida State League Championship Series!
Daytona won a nail-biter, beating the Threshers, 2-1.
RHP Nick Travieso was outstanding for the ‘Tugas, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits in 7.0 innings (1bb, 5k). C Chad Wallach belted a solo homer in the 4th.
Beginning tonight, Daytona will host the first 2 games of a best-of-five championship series against the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Rays). RHP Jackson Stephens (12-7, 2.97) is expected to start for the Tortugas.
The Reds rookie level Billings Mustangs also won last night in the first game of their best-of-three game series against Missoula (Diamondbacks). They beat the Osprey, 5-2.
RHP Wendolyn Bautista was solid in his 6.0 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts.
The Mustangs plated 5 runs on 7 hits.
The series moves to Missoula tonight, with the first pitch scheduled for 9:05 ET. If Billings wins, they’ll advance to the Pioneer League Championship series to play the winner of the Orem/Idaho Falls series.
LHP Jacob Constante (4-3, 3.56) is scheduled to start tonight for the Mustangs.
The Reds Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos tonight begin their quest for the Southern League Championship. They host Biloxi (Brewers) in the first game of a best-of-five series. The winner of the series advances to play for the league title. RHP Daniel Wright (10-11, 4.53) is slated to start tonight for the Blue Wahoos.
And speaking of Pensacola – they’ve been named the Southern League Organization of the Year! Congrats to our friends with the Blue Wahoos!
Expect good news!
