From my pal @Bongreatness

Today is Tony Perez Day at Great American Ball Park.  At 4:30PM today we will dedicate a new Great American Ball Park statue featuring Tony’s likeness just outside of Crosley Terrace at the main entrance to the ballpark.  The ceremony is expected to last approximately 30 minutes and streets surrounding the ballpark will be temporary closed for the expected overflow crowd.  The ceremony will be shown live on the Hall of Fame videoboard that faces The Banks development.

The first 30,000 fans in attendance today will receive a Tony Perez Statue, courtesy of LaRosa’s.  The statue is a miniature replica of the one being unveiled today.  Gates to the ballpark are expected to open for all fans at the conclusion of today’s unveiling ceremony.

We will hold a pregame ceremony in Tony’s honor today beginning at 6:31PM.  The ceremony will feature many of Tony’s family, close baseball friends and his teammates.  In addition to receiving a replica of his statue (a larger one than today’s giveaway), Tony will have the opportunity to address the fans joining us at the ballpark and watching live on FOX Sports Ohio and, and listening on the Reds on Radio network.  Today’s ceremony will wrap up with Tony offering up today’s ceremonial first pitch.

Ohio’s First Lady, and Tony Perez enthusiast, Karen Kasich will serve as today’s Honorary Captain.

Please note that our National Anthem will be sung at 6:27PM and that batting practice times have been adjusted (30 minutes earlier) in preparation for today’s on-field ceremony.

The Reds yesterday participated in the second annual ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  Brayan Pena, Todd Frazier and Jon Moscot were dowsed with ice cold water in an effort to raise awareness for ALS.  Check it out and see who the Reds challenged…
