In the Reds’ 7-3 win over the Padres in San Diego on Wednesday, Joey Votto went 3-for-4 with a home run (#20), stolen base, walk, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.

From our friends at Elias Sports Bureau

But the Padres aren’t the only West Coast victim of Votto’s talents.  Joey also has great success against tonight’s opponent, the Los Angeles Dodgers.  According to STATS, he has a 1.009 OPS (on-base + slugging) vs Los Angeles since 2009, which is second only to Giancarlo Stanton (1.029) during that time.

Also from STATS – the Reds and Dodgers have played each other 19 consecutive times in which neither team scored more than 6 runs.

The Padres celebrated “Wayback Wednesday” at Petco Park yesterday in which the club treated its fans to a complete throwback experience.  In addition to the Padres wearing their “old school” uniforms, the San Diego media relations staff even produced their daily gamenotes in typewriter font on 1980s-style letterhead.  The Petco Park scoreboard also got in on the fun (at the Reds expense).  Take a look…

I think the “Wayback Wednesday is fantastic. Would you like to see the Reds have a similar promotion?

Don’t forget – if you’re interested in attending the Tony Perez Legacy Dinner on Friday, August 21 here at GABP’s Handlebar,  CLICK HERE for more details.

Nearly all of the Big Red Machine legends are scheduled to attend the event.  This presents a great opportunity for you to experience the awesomeness of being in the same room with all of these guys at once.  I don’t think I’m overstating it when I say it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for most folks.  You won’t want to miss it.

And speaking of those Reds Hall of Famers, my pal Lisa Braun and I were discussing which actors we’d cast in a movie about the Big Red Machine.  This gave me the idea for another Better Off Red giveaway….

Follow me on Twitter (@Jamieblog) and let me know what actors you’d choose to portray those ’70s Reds legends in a Big Red Machine movie.  Tweet me your casting decisions using the hashtag #BetterOffRed.  I’ll announce one lucky/random winner on Friday.  Up for grabs is a mystery bobblehead, a 2015 All-Star Game media guide and a BOR t-shirt (and maybe more).  Good luck!
