#REDS BASELINE ITEMS FOR THE WEEKEND
The Cincinnati Reds have signed No. 1 draft pick C Tyler Stephenson (6-4, 220) from Kennesaw Mountain High School in Marietta, Georgia. He was taken with the 11th pick overall in Monday’s first-year player draft and will be assigned to the rookie Pioneer League’s Billings roster.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Since the Reds 9-game losing streak from May 15-25, the club has played 143.5 innings. They’ve trailed in just 38.5 of those 143.5 innings and have won 10 of 16 games.
If you’re not following Marty Brennaman on Instagram, this is the kind of stuff you’re missing…
What a fun time last night in Dayton as I was asked to provide color commentary for the Dayton Dragons telecast. Here I am with the great Tom Nichols, who did a tremendous job of putting up with my dumb jokes and nonsensical analysis…
The Dragons lost 5-3 in 6 innings, as the game was called due to rain.
Have you seen the Cincinnati baseball-inspired statues around town, yet? Each statue is an oversized mustache emblazoned with unique All-Star or Reds-centric imagery and text. The mustache resembles the handlebar style sported by Reds mascot Mr. Redlegs. Each statue measures 8 feet wide, 2.5 feet high and weighs approximately 850 pounds. A total of 20 of the statues will be unveiled around the Queen city.
To complement the statue program, which MLB began ahead of the 2008 All-Star Game, a retail component consists of replica statues modeled after the larger versions that will be placed around the city. The replicas, which are made by Forever Collectibles and double as business card holders, will be available at MLB.com/shop and at the Reds Team Shop by Majestic at Great American Ball Park beginning next week.
