From my pal @Bongreatness...
During tonight’s game a production company hired by Major League Baseball will be filming for commercials for the 2015 All-Star Game. The helicopter will be filming shots along the Ohio River, including close ups of Great American Ball Park. The close up shots will be coordinated to take place during inning breaks as to not cause any disruption in tonight’s game. The close up shots are expected to take place at/around sunset. The production crew and helicopter will remain in the area, at a safe distance, to film tonight’s postgame fireworks show.
Tonight is Friday Fireworks #5 of the 2015 season, presented by Kroger & Reds Home Team Products. The approximately 15-minute postgame fireworks show featuring a “Hip Hop Hits” soundtrack set to Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks will begin approximately 10 minutes after the conclusion of tonight’s game.
Today marks the start of the 43rd annual “GE Weekend” at the ballpark. Thousands of GE employees and their families will be at the ballpark this weekend and will participate in various pregame on-field activities prior to each of the next 3 games.
During pregame ceremonies tonight we will recognize National Baseball Hall of Famer, longtime Reds beat writer for the Dayton Daily News and most recently a writer for FOX Sports Ohio, Hal McCoy. Hal was inducted into the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014 and tonight he will receive his HOF plaque from Shaun Clancy, founder of the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame. Past honorees with Cincinnati Reds ties include Sean Casey (2008, inaugural class), Paul O’Neill (2009) and Jack McKeon (2015). The Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame headquarters are located at Foley’s NY Pub & Restaurant in New York City.
Please note: Earlier versions of our promotional calendar listed tonight as the first “Sam” the Bald Eagle flight of the season. Unfortunately that will no longer take place tonight, but we are hopeful that Sam will make his first flight of the season on June 17th.
Fans encouraged to donate food and ‘Strike Out Hunger’ on June 5 & 6
CINCINNATI (June 3, 2015) — The Cincinnati Reds and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Cincinnati are partnering to “Strike Out Hunger” locally by hosting a food donation drive when the Reds play the San Diego Padres on Friday, June 5 (7:10 p.m.) and Saturday, June 6 (4:10 p.m.) at Great American Ball Park.
Fans who donate a minimum of three non-perishable food items from the time gates open (90 minutes before first pitch) through the fifth inning will receive a free ticket to an upcoming Reds game, limit one ticket per person.
Donation barrels will be located at Gate B (Gapper’s Alley) on the third base side of the ballpark.
“Our food pantries are busier than ever in the summer,” said Kristen Klein, Director of Development of St. Vincent de Paul-Cincinnati. “During the summer months, kids are not in school to receive school lunches and families’ grocery bills go up. For a family who is struggling, the extra costs of peanut butter, cereal, and lunch items can make them feel they have to choose between feeding their families and paying their rent. St. Vincent de Paul is here so they don’t have to choose.”
The 2014 Reds & SVDP drive collected more than 27,000 pounds of food, allowing St. Vincent de Paul to provide food to thousands of families in need throughout Cincinnati.
