The Reds have hired Hall of Fame shortstop Barry Larkin as a minor league roving infield instructor.

RHP Homer Bailey and RHP Matt Magill are both scheduled for season-ending right elbow surgeries today.

Magill was acquired in December from the Dodgers for Chris Heisey.  Magill made 3 starts at Class AAA Louisville.

Cincinnati tonight begins a 3-game Interleague series against the White Sox in Chicago.  The last time the Redlegs battled the Pale Hose was in 2009 at Great American Ball Park (6/19-6/21).  Below is the boxscore from the 6/21/09 game…

The White Sox were the Reds’ first ever opponent when Interleague play began in 1997.  Unfortunately, Cincinnati hasn’t had much luck against the “South Siders,” amassing 3-14 overall record.

I’m not blind to the fact that a 3-14 record is pretty lousy, but there is this one little, teeny-tiny thing I’m leaving out…something called the 1919 World Series.  (Reds Win!  White Sox nearly ruin baseball!)

But let’s get back to the 21st century…here’s video of Brandon Phillips hitting a 2-run homer on  6/19/09 in the last Reds victory over the White Sox…

Curious about the last time the Reds played the White Sox in Chicago?  You gotta go all the back to 2001 (6/12-6/14) Check out the names in the boxscore below (I see you Bill Selby)…

More in a bit. Hope you’re having a great Friday!

Expect good news,

PS – Cheer wildly, jeer mildly. Much more fun that way, trust me.
