POLLS HAVE OPENED FOR THE 2014 BURT AWARDS!

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Reds fans of all ages!

It’s time to vote for the fourth annual Burt Awards…or as we at BOR Headquarters like to call it – “The Burts.”

The Burts – named after Better Off Red mascot Burt BobbleRed – are fans choice awards recognizing the accomplishments and quirks that contributed to the Reds’ 2014 season.

In addition to the traditional categories (MVP, Best Pitcher, etc), we also have some unconventional awards to hand out, such as “Best Mascot,” “Favorite Game” and “Best Hair.

Beginning every Friday, through Halloween, a new batch of categories will be unveiled for voting.  Polls will close at Midnight, November 7.  Results will be posted right here on BOR on Monday, November 10.

The nominees for each category were determined by the hard-working staff at Better Off Red and members of the Cincinnati Reds front office.  We tried to limit the number of nominees to 5 per category, but as you’ll see, in some instances, we had to include more than 5.

You can vote as much and as often as you’d like.  If you lose track of the polls/nominees, the Burt Awards blog posts are listed under the “Categories” section, which is located on the sidebar of Better Off Red. –>>

*****As an added bonus, prizes will be randomly given to voters discussing the Burt Awards in the “Comments” section of each blog post, as well as to folks who Tweet about the Burts using the hashtag #TheBurts. (Again, prizes will be awarded at random).

So without further ado, the first 5 polls are open!

Our first category is 2014 Reds Most Valuable Player.  We limited the nominees to position players since we’ll also have a 2014 Reds Most Outstanding Pitcher category.  Last year, Shin-Soo Choo took home the “Burt” with 35% of the vote.

…..

This poll is for the Best Reds Baserunner.  Keep in mind, sometimes the best baserunner isn’t always the fastest.  Last year, Billy Hamilton won this category with 80% of the vote.

…..

Next is Best Newbie. Nominees were based on “rookie” status as well as “newcomer” status to the Reds club.  Last year, Shin-Soo Choo won with 82% of the vote.

…..

This poll is for Best Announcer. “Mercury” Marty Brennaman is going for his fourth consecutive Burt Award in this category. Can he do it?

…..

The final category for Week One voting is Best GABP Promotional Giveaway.  There were lots to choose from in 2014, so cast your vote wisely.  Last year the Reds Stein became a back-to-back winner; it’s a nominee again this year.

…..

That’s it for Week One voting! Join us next Friday for a new batch of Burt Award categories and nominees!

I pitty the fool that chooses the star wars give-aways

Brayan got my vote and still would, but his fellow former Tiger Santiago got snubbed in the nomination process.

Come on BOR nation!!!!!! Get the Twitter thumbs campaigning for the next dual bobble head!!!!!!! #JamieBurtBobblehead #Awesomeness

It was a hard choice for MVP!

Billy Hamilton was definitely an asset to the team.

always proud of my red legs!

The all-star bobble may be my favorite besides the 2001 Larkin

After “Take me out to the ballgame” please play “Roll out the barrel” instead of “Cincinnati Ohio”. That song saps all the excitement out of the crowd. Castellines arre wonderful!!

Love the reds !!! And Heisey !!!

I believe Billy Hamilton should be the MVP because he not only had speed on bases, but played a great center field… making a number of great catches along with the everyday catches. His hitting slacked near the end of the season, but he was still great..

Santiago should be on the best newbie!!!!!

Next year . . . The Chewbacca bobble head, may the Reds be with you!

Got to keep the momentum going past the All – Stars game. ⚾😵😵

The all star bobble head may be my Favorite giveaway of all time!

Frazier MVP

Todd remained the most consistent player the entire year; Hamilton dropped his BA a little at the end, and Mesoraco was close behind Todd. He should be the Reds’ number one catcher.

To me, bobble heads are nothing more than dust collectors and a waste of the space they take up. My husband was looking so forward to the license plate holder and it was replaced with the All-Star bobble head.

Another snub was Cueto for MVP,

I am ready for spring training and Reds baseball!

I like everything Cincinnati Reds MIKE LEAKE is my favorite player

Read the post, Steve.

As an owner of a bunch of bobbleheads, I disagree. The All-Star bobblehead > license plate holder.

Roll out the Barrell is the Brewers song.

Jonny Cueto isnt on the list ….WTF ??? 1st 20 game winner since 88 ? THIS IS YOUR MVP

Billy Hamilton had an awesome year!!!#the Burts

Pena is my favorite because his birthday is Jan 7- same as mine, and his MLB debut was May 23- my son’s birthday. Oh, and he played great baseball this year.

Great season guys. Keep it up.

Even with the horrible year we had it was a great time watching Billy Hamilton. As well as Johnny cueto.

There is a sentence just before the poll that you missed.

Love the Big Red Machine. That is all.

DDBP is definitely season MVP. No his numbers weren’t as good as Frazier and he was injured and missed some games. But he was the team leader on and off the field. He was sorely missed when he went down.

Love my REDS!!!

I wish I lived closer so I could attend more games in person. I love TV and radio, but I’d rather be live.

Billy Hamilton lit this team up early but unfortunately the lack of supporting offense doomed the reds

Go Reds 2015

Vital player in 2014 was B. Pena! Great asset! Next was Billy Hamilton! What a blessing he was to the team and the fans! Santiago was also great! Kris Nigron should be kept on the team! Thanks for all your hard work and sacrifices!
PS: Hope our Manager is watching the Playoffs and sees how other managers either send the pitching coach out to talk to pitchers when they start getting in trouble and
loose their tempers etc. OK! Go Reds!
