The season’s unofficial second-half begins tonight with the Reds kicking off a 3-game series against the Yankees (47-47) in the Bronx.

Cincinnati starts play tonight at 51-44, in third place, 1.5 games off the pace in the National League Central.  The Reds trail second place St. Louis by a half game.

In the Wild Card standings, the Reds are currently in 4th place, 1.0 game off the lead.

The Reds will send to the Yankee Stadium mound this weekend Mike Leake (tonight), Alfredo Simon (Saturday) and Johnny Cueto (Sunday) to face RHP David Phelps (tonight), RHP Brandon McCarthy (Saturday) and RHP Hiroki Kuroda (Sunday).  New York has gone 8-14 since June 21.


With 51 wins, the Reds are the 12th team in franchise history to collect 50 victories at the All-Star break.

Last season, the Reds were 53-42 at the break.  When play resumed, they won 6 of 10 and finished with a 37-30 “second-half” mark.

In 2012, the Reds won 3 straight leading into the break and 22 of 25 after.  They finished with a 50-27 post-ASG record.

In 2010, the Reds were 49-41 at the break, 42-30 after.  They won 15 times in 22 games after the Mid-Summer Classic.
