WEDNESDAY’S #REDS LINEUP: WHO’S YOUR ‘RED-TO-ROCK?’
Delivering tonight’s game ball will be family members of the late Reds Hall of Famer Wally Post. The pride of St. Henry, OH, Wally Post belted 172 home runs while playing for the Reds and ranked 11th on the team’s all-time home run list entering the 2014 campaign. Reaching the big leagues to stay in 1954, Post soon became a key component in one of the most powerful lineups the game had ever seen. Wally’s 36 home runs were second only to Frank Robinson’s 38 on the 1956 club that set a then-record tying 221 home runs. He was often described as the “best dressed Red” thanks to all of the free suits he acquired by virtue of his long home runs that hit the famous “Hit Sign Win Suit” billboard located atop The Laundry building that loomed across the street from Crosley Field’s left field wall. Wally was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum in 1965 & in the summer of 2013, The Wally Post Chapter formed in the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum and over 130 members from the chapter will be in attendance at tonight’s game.
Harmon-X will be singing tonight’s National Anthem on behalf of Xavier University.
Tonight also marks the 6th and final Kid Glove Game.
