???????????????As we approach the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, the folks here at Better Off Red would like to extend ‘best wishes’ and ‘good luck’ to Katie Uhlaender on her quest for a gold medal!

Katie is the daughter of the late Ted Uhlaender, the former big league outfielder who was a member of the 1972 National League Championship Cincinnati Reds.  She continues to wear her father’s ’72 championship ring in his memory and as a symbol of how hard he worked to get to the World Series.

Katie competes in the sport of skeleton and appeared with the US Olympic team in the 2006 Games in Torino.  She won five gold medals during the 2006-2007 World Cup tour and placed first in the World Cup standings in consecutive seasons.  For all of her success, however, Katie wants to become an Olympic gold medalist.  Let’s cheer her on!

Follow her (and encourage her) on Twitter at @KatieU11.

Go get ’em, Katie!
