Yogi Berra once made an interesting observation and that is “déjà vu all over again.”  It was a ridiculous statement but it is applicable when it comes to the stops that this group, this band of brothers – this gathering of greatness makes year in and year out.  There is a sameness to it, the kind of sameness that the other groups would go to any length to equal.   And today it was déjà vu all over again; first in Bloomington where, despite the weather, our reaction to the crowd was overwhelming.  They may be IU fans, but boy they are Reds fans and also huge fans of the Rock Star Group.  These folks simply opened their arms to us and we willingly and gently went into their loving embrace.  As we were leaving, more than a handful asked, “would you come back next year?”  The answer we gave them is the one we always hate – “no, we won’t be back next year.”

Then it was on to the Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis.  The Pirates may have their Triple-A Farm Club there but don’t tell these Reds fans that.  It seemed like they were hanging from the rafters.  Impressive, because despite those who would say that the numbers weren’t as good as they have been in the past due to the absence of Brandon Phillips; on the contrary, they were.  There’s no question we missed him and we hope he’ll be back next year.

We are all looking forward to sleeping in our own beds tonight but when the morning comes, and we open our eyes to begin another day, the joy of this coming together of greatness will go into hibernation for another year.

And remember, until next year…

Mercury Marty

PS – By the way, the Castleton Square Mall appearance had a religious overtone to it because at one point the crowd gave us, in unison, a big ol’ “Amen!”

A “religious experience”. How about that?
