#REDSCARAVAN DAY TWO: NO WEST FOR THE WEARY
Greetings from US Highway 40! We are en route to Terre Haute (IN) where the Western Tour of the 2014 Reds Caravan is preparing to visit WSFC radio at Rick’s Smokehouse.
The day began this morning at the Shephard Community Center in Indianapolis where Marty read the classic poem Casey at the Bat to about 75 children. While Marty read the poem, Gapper acted it out. The kids hung on every word and actively cheered when the story allowed for it. It was a cool scene but I think the little tikes were a bit bummed when they realized that the mighty had Casey struck out.
Following Casey, members of the traveling party fielded questions from the youngsters. Most of the kids at the center are bilingual, so Brayan Pena answered his question in Spanish. Very cool. The kids at Shephard were incredibly well-behaved and weren’t afraid to give out some free hugs. No matter how cold it was outside, those children warmed our hearts.
From Indianapolis, it was on to Crawfordsville (IN) where the western caravaners went on the air at WCVL radio. Dave Peach and his staff were very friendly and accommodating and served us up some yummies.
And that brings us to Terre Haute. Following this stop, we will make the 113-mile journey to Evansville where our fan stop takes place at Eastland Mall from 5:00-7:30 ET. We are expecting to see lots of great Reds fans tonight!
Marty will submit a Day Two recap right here on BOR, so be sure to tune in.
Enjoy the pics! (the good ones came from my colleague Michael “Mando” Anderson)
