From my pal @Bongreatness

Today is the annual Reds Rookie Success League Day at Great American Ball Park. In its 11th season the RRSSL is a FREE, coed, character-building summer baseball league, targeting 6-12 year olds from throughout Reds Country. The year the program is active in five locations: Cincinnati (Schmidt Fields), Butler County (Fairfield), Louisville, Dayton, & Clermont County (Batavia). Over 1,500 kids will be joining us at today’s game and participate in a pregame parade around the warning track.

Also joining the RRSL guests at the ballpark today are the parents of former Red, Ryan Freel. Ryan was a mainstay at RRSL events during his playing career and a great friend of the Reds Community Fund. Joining us at the ballpark today are Ryan’s dad Patrick Freel, and his mom Norma Vargas and stepfather Clark Vargas. The new “Ryan Freel Heart & Hustle Award” will be given to a deserving RRSL participant at the end of this year’s program.

Today’s game is being broadcast on FOX Sports Ohio commercial-free as they highlight the great programs that the Reds Community Fund is involved in. A call center will be open throughout the game today (and the replay of the game later today) to accept donations to the RCF as well as so fans can bid on wonderful auction items, with all proceeds going to the RCF and their youth outreach programs.

Today’s Honorary Captain is Bob Terrell, Sr. of Corbin, Kentucky. In the late 1950’s Bob was a Marine Corps Lieutenant who helped train and serve alongside Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente.

*Today is the final day of work (for the Reds) for longtime Promotional Events Manager Kathryn Braun. Kathryn has been instrumental in many facets of the organization for over 10 years, including the coordination of these Production Capsules. Thank you for all your hard work KB!!!! (an extra ! just for you)
