From Major League Baseball

MLB and New Era this week will officially introduce a new series of batting practice caps as part of the MLB Authentic Collection that will be worn beginning with Spring Training.  The new caps from New Era, the official cap of Major League Baseball, feature new performance technology as well as fresh designs for all 30 Clubs, including many popular logos that have never before been featured on an official on-field cap.

The Diamond Era 59FIFTY incorporates new NE TECH™ performance technology, providing players with revolutionary light weight, moisture wicking caps.  Made with a new state-of-the art performance diamond print fabric, the Diamond Era 59FIFTY is lighter for increased breathability.  The cap also features SOLAREA™, 50+ UV protection that helps deflect the sun’s rays and COOLERA™ technology that wicks away sweat to keep players comfortable and dry.

The collection will be available for purchase on MLB.com and at Spring Training sites starting next week, and at all major retailers beginning in March.

Below you’ll see the Reds Spring Training/Batting Practice caps, new for 2013.   The caps feature the popular Mr. Redlegs logo.  The all-red one will be worn at GABP, while the black one with red bill will be worn on the road.

The Reds’ Ralph Mitchell, who helped in the designing process of the Reds caps, said, “MLB changes the Authentic Collection every few years and updates all clubs’ On-Field apparel at the same time. With that said, it was an initiative for the newly designed caps to use more of a traditional look across the board.  Although concepts and designs are presented by New Era, the Reds, like the rest of the clubs, worked with Major League Baseball Properties to land on the current look.  Ultimately, Reds Clubhouse and Baseball Operations work together with Reds Business Operations to agree on a direction for the caps’ design; through a series of samples and revisions, decisions are made months prior to MLB/New Era unveiling the new look.”

They all would look great except for the junk on the bill…..makes them look like a cheap billboard. MLB is going to ruin it’s own sport.

Jim – Are you talking about the removable sticker on the bill? – Jamie
