In last night’s 1-0 win RHP Homer Bailey threw the 15th no-hitter in franchise history, the first since LHP Tom Browning’s perfect game on 9/16/88 vs LAD and the first by a Reds righthander since Tom Seaver on 6/16/78 vs StL…was the seventh no-hitter in the Major Leagues this season (Philip Humber, Jered Weaver, Johan Santana, Mariners combined, Matt Cain, Felix Hernandez), tying the all-time modern record set in 1970 and matched in 1971…the all-time record is 8 no-hitters in 1884…was the first no-hitter against the Pirates since Bob Gibson beat them in 1971…had been the second-longest streak in the majors (Cubs, Sandy Koufax, perfect game in 1965).

Last night a wedding reception at the team hotel concluded right around the time the Reds returned from the ballpark.  Homer Bailey, fresh off a pretty decent night on the mound, joined a couple of his teammates for a celebratory refreshment at the hotel, which was filled with folks wearing fancy wedding attire.

As the TVs in the place aired highlights of Bailey’s no-hitter, it was amusing to watch as the patrons first, realize that there was a no-hitter and second, the guy who threw it was in the same room with them.

Homer graciously shook hands and smiled as total strangers dressed to the nines, showered him with congratulations, hand shakes and pats on the back.  It almose felt like he was the one who just got married.  Pretty cool stuff.  It was certainly a night that I’ll never forget.
