Homer Bailey was brilliant in his 7.0 innings (6h, 1r, 2bb, 4k) and J.J. Hoover collected his first big league save as the Reds completed the 3-game sweep of the Pirates Wednesday night, beating the Bucs, 2-1.

The Reds pieced together 2 runs on 6 hits.  Brandon Phillips paced the offense with a pair of singles.  He’s batting .316 since the All-Star break.

The Reds’ RBIs came courtesy of Wilson Valdez and Scott RolenRyan Ludwick doubled and scored a run.

Wednesday’s victory was Dusty Baker’s 1,571st as a Major League manager – tying him with Hall of Famer Dick Williams for 19th on the all-time list.  Dusty’s all-time record in September/October improves to 270-219.

The Reds’ 11.5 game lead in the NL Central is the largest in the Majors and they are 30 games over .500 for the first time since the club was 96-66 on 10/3/99.

With Wednesday’s Reds win coupled with the Cardinals loss in San Diego, Cincinnati’s magic number to clinch the Central is…….
