You can destroy your now by worrying about tomorrow.”    – Janis Joplin

Today with the Reds sitting on a 6-game cushion in the National League Central, many folks have asked me questions like ” what’s the magic number?”, when do playoff tickets go on sale?”, and “who would start Game One?”  All fair questions; all questions fun to ask.  But they make me a little nervous for a few reasons.  I don’t mean to sound like a party-pooper but…

Obviously, we should all know by now not to count our chickens before they hatch.  It can only lead to disappointment, not to mention it doesn’t sit well with the baseball gods (Please PLEASE don’t disturb the baseball gods).

In regards to “getting ahead of ourselves,” I’m not worried about “jinxing it” as much as I am that we aren’t savoring every single delicious morsel that this extraordinary season is serving us.

It’s a long season, one that we pay for with not only money but with time and effort, disappointment and satisfaction.

Take an extra minute to breathe in that Jay Bruce walkoff homer.  Spend a little more time reflecting on that outing by Mat Latos.  Stop and smell the roses.  Although, it’s a pennant “race,” how about we take after the tortoise and not the hare?  Cool?

Go Reds!

Expect good news
