Joey Votto today underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to repair the torn medial meniscus in his left knee. The procedure was performed by Dr. Timothy Kremchek.

Votto is expected to miss 3-4 weeks and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to yesterday.

His roster spot will be filed by RHP Todd Redmond (#58), who has been recalled from Class AAA Louisville. Redmond was acquired from the Braves on Saturday in exchange for IF Paul Janish. He will be in uniform tonight.

Delivering tonight’s Official Game Ball will be Meghan Vogel of West Liberty-Salem High School (West Liberty, OH). During the Division III state final track meet earlier this year, Meghan displayed a notable act of sportsmanship when she carried an injured runner across the finish line, despite facing disqualification per race rules. For more information on her story:

And serving as tonight’s Honorary Captain of the Game will be Cincinnati’s own Adrien “The Problem” Broner, WBO Junior Lightweight Champion. Adrien will defend his title against Vicente Escobedo on Saturday night at US Bank Arena. As a professional fighter Broner owns a 23-0 record, with 19 wins coming by way of knockout. The fight will be shown on HBO’s Boxing After Dark at 10PM that evening.
