‘PLAY’ CLINIC AT GREAT AMERICAN BALL PARK
From my colleague Michael “Mando” Anderson…
Earlier today the annual PLAY clinic was held at Great American Ball Park.
PLAY, which stands for Promoting a Lifetime of Activity for Youth, is a public awareness campaign of the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS), in conjunction with the Taylor Hooton Foundation and MLB Charities.
The PLAY Campaign educates America’s young people about the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as important decision making regarding performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).
Over 60 kids from the Reds Community Fund’s Youth Baseball Funding programs were selected to participate representing the Six Men Tigers from Evanston, American Legion from Newport and District 28 Knothole from Northern Kentucky.
Reds outfielder Chris Heisey met with the kids following drills led by head athletic trainer Paul Lessard, assistant athletic trainer Steve Baumann, assistant athletic trainer Tomas Vera and strength and conditioning coordinator Matt Krause.
The 2012 PLAY Campaign hosts events in all 30 MLB stadiums, as well as select minor league stadiums throughout the baseball season.
