Brandon Phillips posted his second straight 3-hit game, Todd Frazier belted his 10th home run and Ryan Ludwick ripped an RBI-triple as the Reds won their 4th straight game, defeating the Cardinals Friday night, 5-3.

Mat Latos started for Cincinnati and gave up just 2 runs in 5.0 innings (4h, 3bb, 5k) before a high pitch-count ended his night (97 total pitches).  Alfredo Simon relieved Latos and was fantastic in his 2.0 scoreless frames, allowing just 1 hit and 2 walks while fanning 3.  Simon gets the win – his first as a Red.   Aroldis Chapman struck 3 in the 9th for his 12th save.

The 11 strikeouts by Reds pitchers tonight assures each of the 40,217 fans in attendance free pizza and ice cream courtesy of LaRosa’s and UDF.

Tonight’s game was the 7th sellout of the season at Great American Ball Park.

The middle game of this 3-game series against the Cards takes place Saturday at 4:05pm.  Mike Leake will oppose Kyle Lohse.  Tickets are still available.

It was a great victory but my nerves are shot. Glad we won. Was not glad to hear the anger in the crowd towards the athletes. I understand rivalries but it’s not war. Respect!!! Some of these players don’t choose the teams they play for and no MLB athlete deserves hatred unless they commit serous offenses or crimes against humanity. Please bring respect to the park and positive energy will emerge. My family is made up of Cardinal fans and Reds fans and those older Cardinal fans took me to see the Big Red Machine in early 70s. Respect, confidence and love of the game comes before anger. Hating odd not good for anything. Sincerely. Brent

Dear Brent,
My goal is to see those WLB’s head home 4.5 games behind us Sun night.
