Beginning now  through the end of the game on Sunday night, the Reds and Tigers will be duking it out in a “Hashtag Battle” on Twitter.

Fans are encouraged to tag all of their tweets with #VoteReds (the Tigers faithful are doing the same with #VoteTigers).  The tagged tweets will be counted.   The “losing” team (fewest tagged tweets) will have to support the “winning” team in All Star Voting all day on Monday – which will include stuff like changing their avatar, retweeting voting messages, using the other team’s voting hashtag, etc.

So, come on Reds fans – support the boys in Red and let’s show our Michigan neighbors exactly what they got themselves into.

From my colleague Zach Bonkowski (@Bongreatness)…

Tonight is the third Fireworks Friday of the 2012 season. The postgame fireworks 15-minute show will begin approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of tonight’s game and feature Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks set to a “Detroit Rock City” soundtrack celebrating rock & roll music that has emanated from the Motor City.  Tonight’s show is presented by KOI Auto Parts.  Tonight’s show will be preceded by a parade of classic and custom cars around the warning track.  There will be 11 cars ranging from an original Model T to a ’67 Chevelle Super Sport to a 35th Anniversary Chevrolet Camaro and many more.  (editor’s note: Bonkowski will be displaying his ’89 Camaro, too.  He’s even taking the t-tops out especially for this event).

One of tonight’s ceremonial first pitches will be offered up by Shirley Larkin, mother of Cooperstown Hall of Fame 2012 inductee Barry Larkin.  Her first pitch was rescheduled from the Mother’s Day game earlier this season (4-hour+ rain delayed start that day). Catching the pitch for Shirley will be Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips.
