#REDS WIN! SWEEP BRAVES, MESO-SLAMO
Devin Mesoraco blasted his first career grand slam and Homer Bailey was fantastic in his 6.0 innings (4h, 2r, 1bb, 6k) as the Reds roared to their 6th straight win and finish the 4-game series sweep of the Braves. It was the first time since 1990 that the Reds swept a 4-game set against Atlanta and the first time since 1980 that they did it in Cincinnati.
The Reds 6-game winning streak is their longest since winning 7 in-a-row in August 2010.
The 4-game series vs. Atlanta concludes with 16 total home runs hit between the 2 teams (Reds 10, Braves 6), including 13 solo homers.
The Rockies come to town Friday to begin a 3-game weekend series. Johnny Cueto will oppose lefty Christian Friedrich. Plenty of seats are still available for you to see your scorching hot Redlegs. Get down here and see ’em before they hit the road Monday!
Let’s catch up with that 1972 Reds team after 44 games, shall we?
A day after beating the Phillies 6-3 in 17 innings, the Reds beat ’em again in 10 innings (6-5) to win their 6th straight game and improve to 26-18. After 44 games, the ’72 Reds trailed first-place Los Angeles by a game and a half.
2012 Reds: 25-19, 2nd, -0.5, 6-game winning streak
1972 Reds: 26-18, 2nd, -1.5, 6-game winning streak
The Phillies are once again involved, as they lead the Cardinals 9-7 in the 6th inning tonight in St. Louis (as of press time). If the Phillies win, the Reds move into first-place in the National League Central.
