REDS WIN!!

Johnny Cueto pitched 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks while fanning 4 (95 pitches) as the Reds beat the Miami Marlins in the season’s lid-lifter Thursday afternoon at Great American Ball Park.

Aroldis Chapman (1ip, 2k) and Sean Marshall (1ip, 2k) preserved Cincinnati’s first Opening Day shutout since 1980.

RF Jay Bruce (2rbi) belted a long home run in the sixth inning.  SS Zack Cozart went 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Cozart is the first Reds rookie shortstop to start on Opening Day since Frank Duffy in 1971.

Ryan Ludwick and Chris Heisey each doubled in a run.

Today’s attendance of 42,956 marked the largest regular-season crowd in the history of Great American Ball Park (2003) and  the second-largest crowd ever at GABP (45,999 – 2010 NLDS Game 3 vs. Phi).
