This Date in Reds History (Courtesy of Redleg Journal by Rhodes & Snyder):

November 4, 1891: The Reds hire Charlie Comiskey to play first base and manage the team.

“Comiskey was player-manager for St. Louis in the American Association in 1891.  Comiskey managed Cincinnati to a 201-206 record from 1891-1894.  He is best known as the owner of the Chicago White Sox from 1901 until his death in 1931, and for the ballpark which bears his name.  His pettiness and penurious manner inspired the Chicago players to throw the 1919 World Series to the Reds.”

November 4, 1981: The Reds trade Ken Griffey Sr. to the Yankees for Fred Toliver and Brian Ryder.
