Johnny Bench Way signs installed around Great American Ball Park
CINCINNATI (Nov. 1, 2011) — The four new Johnny Bench Way street signs have been installed around Great American Ball Park.
Signs at the following locations mark the ceremonial renaming of the streets along the north and east sides of the ballpark as “Johnny Bench Way”:
– Corner of Second Street and Joe Nuxhall Way
– Corner of Mehring Way and Broadway Street
– Two signs at the corner of Pete Rose Way and Second Street
Following the unveiling of the Johnny Bench statue outside the Reds Hall of Fame & Museum on Sept. 17, Bench was given the surprise of a second honor on Johnny Bench Night with the announcement that portions of Second Street and Broadway outside the ballpark will be renamed “Johnny Bench Way.”
“I am so pleased with the new street naming,” said Bench. “I want to thank Mayor Mallory and all of City Council along with the Cincinnati Reds and Reds Hall of Fame for this great honor that has been bestowed on me.”
Johnny Bench Way joins Pete Rose Way and Joe Nuxhall Way as streets around Great American Ball Park named after former Reds players.
