DRAGONS CLINCH
With last night’s win and Fort Wayne’s loss vs. Lansing, the Dayton Dragons clinched the Midwest League Eastern Division second half title, earning their first playoff appearance since 2008.     

CINGRANI WINS WEEKLY AWARD
LHP Tony Cingrani (Billings) today was named Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week for 8/22-8/28…in 2 starts, Cingrani gave up just 1 run over 11.0 innings (7h, 1bb, 21k), including Saturday’s win over Casper in which he didn’t allow a hit over 6.0 shutout innings…in 11 starts overall this season, the Reds 2011 third-round pick out of Rice is 1-2 with a 1.56 ERA (40.1ip, 5bb, 66k, .176 opponent’s batting average).    

BUCKLEY AN ALL-STAR
3b Sean Buckley (Billings) has been selected as a 2011 Pioneer League All-Star…the Reds’ sixth-round draft pick is currently batting .288 with 14 home runs and 41 RBI in just 56 games with the Mustangs (.561slg)…other Mustangs receiving Honorable Mention on the All-Star Team were: RHP James Allen, C Yovan Gonzalez, OF Kurtis Muller, C/1b Nick O’Shea, RHP Radhames Quezada and manager Pat Kelly.

LOUISVILLE 5, COLUMBUS (INDIANS) 8: LHP Travis Wood (2-3) started for Louisville and was reached for 6 runs on 7 hits in 3.0 innings (1bb, 3k, 2hr)…LHP Tom Cochran pitched 4.0 innings of relief (3h, 2r, 0bb, 1k, 1hr)…the Bats scored 5 runs on 6 hits…2b Chris Valaika went 2-for-5 with a 2-run homer and 2 runs scored…CF Kristopher Negron (2-for-4, 2r, 2rbi) also homered…DH Chris Heisey (rehabbing strained left oblique) was hitless in 3 plate appearances (1k).

CAROLINA 3, MONTGOMERY (RAYS) 4: RHP Justin Lehr (1-2) started for Carolina and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits in 5.0 innings (2bb, 3k, 1hr)…the Mudcats crossed the plate 3 times on 7 hits…3b Henry Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a double…DH Neftali Soto belted his 29th home run.

BAKERSFIELD 12, HIGH DESERT (MARINERS) 4: The Blaze dented the dish 12 times on 12 hits…C Mark Fleury went 2-for-4 with a grand slam…1b Chris Richburg belted 2 home runs and drove in 4…DH Jorge Jimenez went 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored…RHP J.C. Sulbaran (9-5) started for Bakersfield and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 5.0 innings (1bb, 8k).

WEST MICHIGAN (TIGERS) 0, DAYTON 6: The Dragons clinched the Midwest League East Division second-half title…RHP Josh Smith (13-7) was outstanding in his 6.0 shutout innings, scattering 3 hits with no walks and 6 strikeouts…the Dragons plated 6 runs on 13 hits…3b David Vidal (3rbi) and LF Juan Duran (2-for-4) both homered…SS Billy Hamilton went 2-for-5 (0sb).

CASPER (ROCKIES) 4, BILLINGS 9: LHP Ismael Guillon (3-5) started for Billings and allowed a run on 3 hits in 5.0 innings (3bb, 4k, 1hr, 1hr)…the Mustangs scored 9 runs on 13 hits…1b Robert Maddox went 3-for-5 with a home run (#11), a triple and 4 RBI.

AZL BREWERS 3, AZL REDS 4: 3b Gabriel Rosa (2-for-4, 1r, 1rbi) drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 9th…LHP Joel Bender started for the Redlegs and allowed 2 unearned runs in 6.0 innings (4h, 1bb, 8k).
