REDS HONOR HARANG
From my colleague Michael Anderson…
During pregame ceremonies last night the Reds & Reds Community Fund honored former Reds pitcher and current San Diego Padre Aaron Harang and his wife Jen for their many contributions to the community during their stay in Cincinnati (2003-2010).
While a member of the Reds, Aaron and Jen, were integral to the development of the Miracle League Field at Dunham Recreation Center, providing the financial resources to support the Aaron’s Aces ticket program for the families of military personnel currently serving overseas, and were closely involved with Cole Schlesner, an 16-year old who suffered brain trauma when struck by a baseball during a game in the Spring of 2009.
Aaron was also heavily involved with Make-a-Wish visits at GABP, served as the first captain of the Reds Heads Kids Club, donated his time and money to the “Shop with a Red” program and Reds Rookie Success League, and Jen had a leadership role with the StarShine Hospice in Cincinnati while also being a valuable liaison between the organization and all of our Reds wives.
The Harangs received three gifts from the Reds organization and were joined on the field by members of the Cincinnati Miracle League program, the Schlesner family, representatives of the RCF, Jay Bruce (who has kept the Aaron’s Aces military ticket program running this season) & COO Phil Castellini.
