A few random things…
Tonight marks the 8-year anniversary of Bronson Arroyo’s perfect game against Buffalo while pitching for Boston’s Triple-A affiliate, Pawtucket.
Here’s a photo of the pitching rubber from that night, signed by Bronson and his teammates.
Entering today, Florida’s Dan Uggla was working on a 30-game hitting streak. When he and the Braves were in town on July 24, in his third plate appearance of that night’s game against the Reds, Uggla hit a scorcher to third baseman Miguel Cairo. The official scorer originally ruled it an error on Cairo. Uggla would not get a hit the rest of the night, all but ending his hitting streak at 14.
The Braves media relations representative did the right thing and asked the official scorer to review the play again. The following day, after further examination, the error was changed to a hit and Uggla’s hitting streak was resurrected.
Club media relations reps are permitted to kindly ask the official scorer to review plays that are considered questionable. I’ve done it myself a few times. More often the not, the calls aren’t changed. Sometimes they are. This time, the call was rightfully switched from an error. The ball Uggla hit that night was, in my opinion, clearly a hit. Kudos to Uggla, the official scorer and the Braves media relations representative….and God Bless America.
I have copies of “Let’s Get Ready to Win” to give away. I’m just trying to figure out how and why I’m going to give them to you. I’m open for suggestions.
