REDS MINOR LEAGUE NEWS

MALONEY SET TO REHAB
LHP Matt Maloney, who’s been on the Reds disabled list since 5/26 with a broken rib, is scheduled to make a rehab appearance tonight for the Arizona League Reds against the AZL Indians in Goodyear.  

HOPE SOTO
1b Neftali Soto (Carolina) has reached base safely in 23 straight games dating back to 6/18…during that stretch, Soto is batting .329 with 11 home runs, 23 RBI and a .418 on-base percentage.

RENKEN SHINES
RHP Daniel Renken (Dayton) last night at Quad Cities didn’t allow a hit in his 6.0 shutout innings (3bb, 7k)…over his last 4 starts, he’s allowed just 3 runs over 23.2 innings (1.14era, 35k)…Renken leads the Midwest League with 127 strikeouts (102 innings pitched).

LOUISVILLE 0, CHARLOTTE (WSOX) 1: RHP Daryl Thompson (2-1) started for Louisville and was the hard-luck loser, allowing a run on 5 hits in 6.0 innings (1bb, 6k)…the Bats were blanked on 7 hits…C Corky Miller, 1b Danny Dorn and 2b Chris Valaika paced the offense with 2 hits each.

JACKSON (MARINERS) 9, CAROLINA 6: RHP Matt Klinker (5-6) started for Carolina and was reached for 8 runs in 4.1 innings (11h, 2bb, 3k, 1hr)…RHP Clayton Shunick fired 2.2 scoreless innings of relief (1h, 1k)…the Mudcats crossed the plate 6 times on 10 hits…LF Quintin Berry went 2-for-4 with a home run, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored…CF Denis Phipps added 2 hits and 2 RBI.

STOCKTON (A’S) 4, BAKERSFIELD 5: RHP J.C. Sulbaran started for Bakersfield and gave up 4 runs (3er) on 9 hits in 6.0 innings (1bb, 4k)…RHP Doug Salinas (3-1) earned the win in relief (2ip, 1h, 1k)…the Blaze scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning…CF Ryan LaMarre went 2-for-4 with a home run (#5), 2 RBI and 2 runs scored…2b Brodie Greene, C Kevin Coddington and RF Dayne Read each provided a pair of hits.

DAYTON 4, QUAD CITIES (CARDINALS) 6: RHP Daniel Renken started for Dayton and didn’t allow a hit over his 6.0 shutout innings (3bb, 7k)…RHP Drew Hayes (1-2) suffered the loss in relief (0.1ip, 3h, 2r, 2bb, 1hr)…the Dragons plated 4 runs on 9 hits…3b David Vidal paced the offense with 3 hits and 2 runs scored…SS Billy Hamilton walked, scored a run and swiped his 68th base.

OREM 2, BILLINGS 1: The Mustangs dropped both games of a doubleheader…Gm1: RHP Brooks Pinckard (1-1) was reached for 4 runs in 0.2 innings of relief to take the loss…RF Kyle Waldrop went 2-for-4 with a home run..Gm2: LHP Ismael Guillon was brilliant in his 5.0 scoreless innings (1bb, 6k)..the Mustangs pushed across 1 run on 2 hits.

AZL BREWERS 6, AZL REDS 10: LHP Tanner Robles started and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 4.0 innings…RHP Daniel Tuttle (3-1) fanned 10 in 4.0 innings of relief (6h, 3r)…1b Carlos Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a double, walk and 2 runs scored…LF Brennan “Lil” May had 2 hits, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
