RHP Pedro Villarreal (Carolina) last night made his Double-A debut and pitched 6.0 shutout innings (5h, 2bb, 5k)…Villarreal, 23, began the season in Bakersfield where he went 4-3 with a 4.34 ERA in 10 starts.

SYRACUSE (NATIONALS) 4, LOUISVILLE 9: RHP Matt Klinker (3-1) started for Louisville and was outstanding in his 6.2 innings, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts…the Bats scored 9 runs on 12 hits…SS Chris Valaika and 1b Yonder Alonso paced the offense with 3 hits apiece…C Corky Miller (2-for-4, 2r) belted a 3-run homer.

CAROLINA 8, JACKSONVILLE (MARLINS) 0: RHP Pedro Villarreal (1-0) made his Double-A debut and fired 6.0 shutout innings (5h, 2bb, 5k)…LHP Donnie Joseph fired 2.0 perfect innings of relief (2k)…the Mudcats rang the bell 8 times on 14 hits (7-for-16 w/RISP)…SS Miguel Rojas led the way with 3 hits (2r, 2rbi)…2b Cody Puckett went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI…CF Quintin Berry added a pair of hits and 2 runs scored.

VISALIA (D’BACKS) 9, BAKERSFIELD 7: Visalia’s 5 unearned runs in the 7th inning proved fatal for Bakersfield…RHP Mark Serrano made his California League debut and gave up 4 runs on 5 hits in 5.0 innings (0bb, 1k, 2hr)…RHP Tyree Hayes (3-3) suffered the blown save and loss (1.2ip, 7h, 5r/0er, 1hr)…the Blaze dented the dish 7 times on 16 hits…CF Ryan LaMarre (2-for-4, 3rbi), 3b Henry Rodriguez (3-for-5, 2r) and 1b Chris Richburg (2-for-5, 2rbi) all homered.

DAYTON 4, SOUTH BEND 5: The Dragons dropped both games of a doubleheader…gm1: RHP Daniel Tuttle (4-2) started and was reached for 4 runs (3er) on 7 hits in 5.0 innings (4k)…the Dragons managed 1 run on 4 hits…SS Billy Hamilton went 1-for-3 with the RBI…gm2: RHP Pat Doyle started and allowed 3 runs (2er) on 5 hits in 4.0 innings (1bb, 4k)…LHP Blaine Howell (0-1) suffered the loss in relief (3h, 1r, 4bb, 1k)…the Dragons pushed across 4 runs on 7 hits…SS Billy Hamilton (2r, 2rbi) and 1b Dominic D’Anna (2rbi) led the offense with 2 hits each.
