REDS MINOR LEAGUE NEWS

PLAYERS OF THE MONTH
3b Eric Campbell (Bakersfield) and RHP Josh Smith (Dayton) have been named Reds Minor League Batter and Pitcher of the Month for April, respectively…in 23 games for the Blaze, Campbell batted .439 (36-for-82) with 12 doubles, 3 home runs, 20 RBI, a .538 on-base percentage and a .720 slugging percentage…in 5 starts for the Dragons, Smith went 2-1 with a 0.93 ERA (29ip, 7r/3er, 7bb, 35k)…for their efforts each player will receive an autographed photo of Bernie Stowe and a lock of Bob Miller’s hair.        

THE HUNT IS ON
OF Stephen Hunt (Bakersfield) has hit safely in each of his 12 games this season (25-48, .521, 3hr, 19rbi, .582obp, .896slg)…the 22 year-old from Tampa was the Reds 15th round pick in last year’s draft…he played collegiately at South Florida where he also pitched.

NORFOLK 2, LOUISVILLE 1: The Bats dropped both games of a doubleheader…Gm1: LHP Dontrelle Willis (2-1) gave up 4 runs on 7 hits in 6.0 innings (1bb, 10k)…RHP Jose Arredondo (rehabbing) pitched a scoreless inning of relief (1bb, 1k)…the Bats were blanked on 4 hits…Gm2: LHP Matt Maloney allowed a run on 6 hits in 5.1 innings (0bb, 5k)…RHP Jerry Gil (0-2) suffered the loss in relief (1.1ip, 1h, 1r/0er)…1b Eric Eymann led the offense with 2 hits.

MONTGOMERY (RAYS) 0, CAROLINA 7: RHP Matt Klinker (1-1) started for Carolina and was excellent in his 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks while fanning 4…LHP Lee Tabor fired 2.0 perfect innings of relief (2k)…1b Mike Costanzo went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI…he’s now reached base safely in each of his last 17 games and has hit safely in 12 consecutive home games…C Kevin Coddington added a pair of hits.

BAKERSFIELD 5, LAKE ELSINORE (PADRES) 6: RHP Josh Ravin started for Bakersfield and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in 6.0 innings (2bb, 7k, 1hr)…LHP Mace Thurman suffered the loss in relief (0.2ip, 3h, 2r, 1bb)…DH Stephen Hunt went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, a run and an RBI…SS Brodie Greene added 3 hits…C Yasmani Grandal belted a 2-run homer (#7).
