PUCKETT WINS WEEKLY AWARD
Cody Puckett (Carolina) yesterday was named Southern League Player of the Week for 4/25-5/1…in 7 games, he batted .345 (10-for-29) with 3 HR and 13 RBI…overall this season, Puckett is hitting .341 in 25 games (6 HR, 25 RBI, .659 SLG.).
3b Eric Campbell (Bakersfield) yesterday at Lake Elsinore extended his hitting streak to 7 games with 2 hits and 6 RBI, including a grand slam…Campbell is currently leading or among California League leaders in virtually every offensive category, including “awesomeness”…his .429 batting average leads all of minor league baseball (minimum 90 at-bats).
1B Mike Costanzo (Carolina) has reached base safely in each of his last 16 games (.296, .415obp) and has hit safely in 11 straight home games.
LOUISVILLE VS NORFOLK (ORIOLES): The Louisville Bats were victimized by liquid precipitation and will make up the contest vs Norfolk as part of a doubleheader this afternoon.

BAKERSFIELD 12, LAKE ELSINORE (PADRES) 7: The Blaze erupted for 12 runs on 16 hits…3b Eric Campbell (surprise, surprise) went 2-for-6 with a grand slam (his 3rd homer in 4 games)…2b Henry Rodriguez (2-for-5, 2r) also homered…SS Brodie Greene paced the offense with 3 hits…RHP Lance Janke (2-1) started for Bakersfield and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits in 5.0 innings (2bb, 2k)…RHP Clayton Shunick pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of relief (1h, 3k).
DAYTON AT BOWLING GREEN (RAYS): Weather forecasters from Missouri were at the Dayton/Bowling Green game last night, only to see the contest suspended in the first inning due to rain…the game will resume this afternoon and be followed by the regularly-scheduled game.

1995: David Bell (current Carolina Mudcats manager) makes his major league debut at third base for the Indians in a 14-7 victory over the Tigers. His appearance makes the Bells, with his father Buddy and his grandfather Gus, the second three-generation family in major league history (the Boones were the first). Gus Bell dies four days later.
