REDS VICTORIOUS IN CACTUS LEAGUE OPENER
The Reds kicked off the 2011 Cactus League season by rallying from a 6-1 deficit to beat the Indians this afternoon, 7-6 at Goodyear Ballpark.
Zack Cozart (2-for-2, double, 1r) tied the game at 6 in the ninth with an RBI-single. Corky Miller put the Redlegs up for good with a run scoring double. Miller also had a sac-fly and finished the day with 2 RBI. Dave Sappelt (2rbi) and Chris Valaika hit back-to-back homers in the eighth.
Matt Maloney started on the mound for the Reds and pitched 2 perfect innings (2k). Sam LeCure fanned 4 in his 2.0 innings of relief. Donnie Joseph was reached for 5 runs in 0.1 inning (3h, 2bb, 1hr). Daryl Thompson picked up the win (1.2ip, 1h, 1bb, 2k) and Jose Arredondo notched the save (1ip, 1h).
Tomorrow the Reds and Indians hook up again at Goodyear Ballpark, this time with the Reds “hosting.” The game can be heard on MLB.com and the Reds Radio Network at 3:05pm ET.
