Pioneer Park in Kenton County chosen as winner of Home Field Makeover

CINCINNATI (January 11, 2011) – The Reds Community Fund announced that Pioneer Park in Kenton County, Ky. is the winner of the inaugural Home Field Makeover contest.

As the winner, Kenton County Parks & Recreation will receive a complete field renovation project, underwritten by the Reds Community Fund. 

The fields at Pioneer Park will receive infield restoration, new fencing and backstops, field grading and leveling, new infield dirt and grass.

The approximate value of these renovations is $50,000.

The project will include support from Reds field vendors and members of the Reds grounds crew.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 29 at 10 a.m.

Representatives from Kenton County, City of Covington and Reds Community Fund are scheduled to attend the ceremony.

Also scheduled to attend are members of the Reds Caravan including GM Walt Jocketty, COO Phil Castellini, broadcaster Jim Kelch, 2010 first round draft pick Yasmani Grandal, “Mr. Perfect” Tom Browning and mascot Mr. Redlegs.

Pioneer Park is located at 3951 Madison Pike (KY17), Covington, Ky., 41071. 

Since 2006, the Reds Community Fund has renovated over 325 fields across Reds Country.


The Reds Community Fund underwrites more than 300 youth baseball and softball teams annually; has renovated more than 325 baseball fields since 2006; operates the Reds Rookie Success League in Cincinnati, Fairfield, Mason, Dayton and Louisville; and annually reaches more than 30,000 children and coaches through its baseball-themed outreach programs.
