CLEVELAND BROWN MEETS JOHNNY BENCH

From Mike Henry, aka “Cleveland Brown“……

Jamie,

I’m so happy to have gotten to know you and the other fellas with the Reds this year.  What a great season!  And the future is bright!  Three Gold Gloves today is awesome too.  I also LOVED your post about Sparky.  The ’70s were my era and he was a special figure to me.  I want to tell you about the great day I had today.  Please feel free to post the following…

I’m thrilled to report that Johnny Bench came to “The Cleveland Show” today and participated in a table reading for an episode that will air next fall.  He plays himself as Cleveland’s boyhood hero, who Cleveland meets at a restaurant.  Comedy ensues as Johnny mistakes Cleveland’s wife for Joe Morgan in a wig…  Meeting Johnny today was an absolute thrill.  He was, in fact, my own boyhood hero.  He came in from Palm Springs with his wife, Lauren, and was absolutely as nice as he could be.  We talked about the Big Red Machine, Sparky, Pete, the current Reds, and lots of other things.  He signed my poster of him hitting the 9th inning, game-tying homer in game 5 of the 1972 NLCS…  A poster that hung in my room as a teenager and one that will now hang in my game room as a 45 year old teenager.  And to top it all off, his performance was hilarious.  The guy’s got real comic timing.  I guess that’s what you get when you hang with Bob Hope.  Anyway, just wanted to relay this  great day.  Johnny Bench is the best!  Go Reds!!

See you at Spring Training!

All my best,
Mike “Cleveland” Henry
