TODAY’S NEWS: OF Laynce Nix (97g, .291, 4hr, 18rbi) cleared waivers, refused an outright assignment and elected free agency…Louisville OF Wladimir Balentien (116g, .282, 25hr, 78rbi, 12sb) has been named to Topps’ Triple-A All-Star team.

GOLD GLOVERS: The winners of the National League Rawlings Gold Glove Awards will be announced tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPNEWS.

AWARDS SEASON: Following is a list of additional awards announcement dates: Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Awards (Thu, 11/11, MLB Network, 6:00et), BBWAA AL & NL Jackie Robinson Rookies of the Year (Mon, 11/15), NL Cy Young (Tue, 11/16), AL & NL Managers of the Year (Wed, 11/17), AL Cy Young (Thu, 11/18), NL Most Valuable Player (Mon, 11/22) and AL Most Valuable Player (Tue, 11/23)…the BBWAA awards will be announced at 2:00 p.m. ET, followed by conference calls with the winners at 3:00 p.m. ET and, when there are 2 awards announced on the same day, 3:30 p.m. ET.

HOT STOVE LEAGUE: The first Hot Stove League radio show of the 2010 off-season is scheduled for tomorrow at 6:00 p.m., then will move to Tuesdays through March 29…the popular show can be heard on 700 WLW Radio, via the internet at and on the Reds On Radio Network…some of the shows will be broadcast live from the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum’s Palace of the Fans Theater…those TBA shows will be open to the public, with free admission to the Hall of Fame after 5:00 p.m..

HALL OF FAMER: Tomorrow night in Clearwater Beach, Reds Senior Director of Player Development and Global Scouting Terry Reynolds will be inducted into the Florida State League Hall of Fame, along with players Sid Fernandez, Stanley Karpinski, Carlos Delgado and Dan Keith, managers Jim Leyland and Felipe Alou, executive Charlie Blaney and owners Frank Decker and Marvin Goldklang…as general manager of the Class A Vero Beach Dodgers, Reynolds was named the Florida State League Executive of the Year (1980, ’83, ’85), The Sporting News’ Minor League Executive of the Year (’83) and the Florida Diamond Executive of the Year (’86).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: RHP Daryl Thompson has been named Arizona Fall League Pitcher of the Week…in his only start of the week, Thompson had 6 strikeouts in 4.0 innings for the Peoria Saguaros…in 3 apps and 2 starts overall he is 2-0 and ranks second in the AFL with a 0.75era.

INSTRUCTIONAL LEAGUE AWARDS: At the conclusion of the Arizona Instructional League, 3B David Vidal was voted the Dernell Stenson Most Valuable Player Award (48g, .267, 6hr, 36rbi in 2010 at AZ Reds/Billings/Dayton)…other award winners included Outstanding Hitter 2B Ronald Torreyes (91g, .369, 5hr, 44rbi, 25sb in 2010 at VSL Reds/AZ Reds/Dayton) and Outstanding Pitchers RHP Daniel Corcino (15gs, 2-4, 3.80 in 2010 at Billings/Dayton), RHP Kyle Lotzkar (12g, 10gs, 3-1. 2.03 in 2010 at AZ Reds/Billings) and RHP Daniel Tuttle (13gs, 5-3, 4.32 in 2010 at Billings).

FREE AGENTS: SS Orlando Cabrera and RHP Aaron Harang became free agents after the Reds declined to exercise their 2011 contract options…OF Laynce Nix on 11/9 became a free agent after he cleared waivers and refused an outright assignment…Reds players who became free agents following the World Series were OF Willie Bloomquist, IF/OF Miguel Cairo, OF Jim Edmonds, C Ramon Hernandez, RHP Mike Lincoln, LHP Arthur Rhodes and RHP Russ Springer.

HANK AARON AWARD: Prior to Game 4 of the World Series, 1B Joey Votto received the Hank Aaron Award as the National League’s best hitter…Votto, 27, led the Reds to the National League Central Division championship while ranking among the NL’s Top 3 in 11 statistical categories, in the Top 5 in 15 categories and among the Top 8 in 18 categories…the MVP candidate led the Major Leagues in on-base percentage (.424) and led the NL in slugging percentage (.600), hitting on the road (.349), hitting vs RHP (.347), RBI ratio (4.8ab) and OPS (1.024)…in the prestigious Triple Crown categories Votto ranked second in hitting (.324) and third in both homers (37) and RBI (113)…Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (.260, 54hr, 124rbi) was the AL winner…the National League’s Most Valuable Player will be announced by the BBWAA at 2:00 p.m. ET on Monday, November 22.

EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR: In voting of his peers, Reds President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Walt Jocketty was named Sporting News’ Executive of the Year for the third time after building a team that won the National League Central Division title by 5.0 games with a 91-71 record…was the Reds’ first Postseason appearance since 1995…Jocketty also was recognized by Sporting News in 2000 and 2004…the 2010 Reds was the eighth club led to the playoffs by Jocketty and his seventh to win the NL Central outright…he is the Reds’ fifth winner of the prestigious award, joining Warren Giles (1938), Gabe Paul (1956), Bob Howsam (1973) and Bob Quinn (1990).

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: OF Dave Sappelt, 23, was named the Southern League’s Most Valuable Player and Topps’ Southern League Player of the Year…in 133 apps overall at Class A Lynchburg, Class AA Carolina and Class AAA Louisville he led all Reds minor leaguers in hitting (.342) while ranking fifth in both RBI (74) and stolen bases (25).
