LOUISVILLE 5, INDIANAPOLIS (PIRATES) 7: RHP Chad Reineke (9-9) started for Louisville and was reached for 6 runs on 8 hits in 6.0 innings (4bb, 4k,1 hr)…the Bats scored 5 runs on 10 hits…1b Danny Dorn went 2-for-4 with a 2-run homer and 4 RBI…CF Dave Sappelt added a pair of hits, a walk and a run scored.

CAROLINA 0, BIRMINGHAM (WSOX) 8: Carolina was whitewashed on 7 hits (0-for-6 w/RISP, 9 LOB)…RHP Daryl Thompson (0-5) started for the Mudcats and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits in 3.0 innings (2bb, 3k).

LYNCHBURG 0, WINSTON-SALEM (WSOX) 11: Lynchburg was blanked on 5 hits…RHP Daniel Guerrero (2-2) started for the Hillcats and allowed 6 runs on 7 hits in 4.0 innings (2bb, 5k, 1hr).

BOWLING GREEN (RAYS) 5, DAYTON 1: RHP Jacob Johnson (8-7) started for Dayton and allowed 4 runs on 3 hits in 5.1 innings (2bb, 2k)…the Dragons pushed across 1 run on 4 hits…DH Frank Pfister went 2-for-3 with a run, a walk and an RBI.

: RHP Kyle Lotzkar (2-0) started for Billings and was brilliant in his 7.0 innings, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits with 2 walks and 11 strikeouts…the Mustangs scored 2 runs on 4 hits…2b Billy Hamilton went 1-for-3 with a double. 

MINOR LEAGUE NEWS

SAPPELT NAMED MVP
Dave Sappelt has been named the Southern League’s 2010 Most Valuable Player…Sappelt, 23, was among SL leaders in virtually every offensive category at the time of his August promotion to Triple-A Louisville…in 89 games this season with the Mudcats, Sappelt batted .361 (119-330) with 9 HR, 62 RBI, 53 R, 19 2B, 181 TB, 15 SB, a .416 OBP. and a .548 slugging pct.

VALAIKA, BALENTIEN ALL-STARS
Louisville’s Chris Valaika (2B) and Wladimir Balentien (OF) have been named to the International League Postseason All-Star Team.

HOTCHKISS, CL TOP PITCHER
Yesterday the Carolina League named Lynchburg’s Jordan Hotchkiss as the circuit’s Pitcher of the Year…Hotchkiss, 24, went 10-4 with a league-best 2.30 ERA in 31 appearances (15 starts) for the Hilcats…he was promoted to Double-A Carolina on 8/20.

REDS WIN DSL AWARDS
Reds farmhands Carlos Sanchez and Abel de lo Santos have been named Domincan Summer League MVP and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
