LOUISVILLE 9, SYRACUSE (NATIONALS) 1: LHP Travis Wood (4-4) started for Louisville and was outstanding in his 7.0 shutout innings, scattering just 3 hits with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts…the Bats scored 9 runs on 13 hits…C Wilkin Castillo went 2-for-4 with a home run (#6) and 2 runs scored…LF Drew Sutton (1rbi), 1b Yonder Alonso (2r, 1bb), 3b Todd Frazier (1r, 1rbi, 1bb) and 2b Chris Valaika (1r, 2rbi) all had 2 hits each.

HUNTSVILLE (BREWERS) 5, CAROLINA 3: LHP Travis Webb (2-4) started for Carolina and gave up 4 runs on 6 hits in 5.0 innings (1bb, 3k)…RHP Ruben Medina fired 2.0 scoreless innings of relief (1h, 1bb)…the Mudcats scored 3 runs on 4 hits…3b Mike Costanzo ripped a 2-run homer in the 1st inning that nearly caused a bus from the Triangle Transit Authority to veer off Highway 39…C Devin Mesoraco (1-for-4, 1r) doubled without incident.

POTOMAC (NATIONALS) 3, LYNCHBURG 0:RHP Mark Serrano (2-4) started for Lynchburg and allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in 6.2 innings (1bb, 8k)…LHP Bill Bray allowed a hit in his 1.0 inning of relief…Bray last Friday was optioned from Louisville to Lynchburg following his stint on the disabled list (5/19/09 “Tommy John” surgery)…the Hillcats were blanked on 5 hits…RF Cody Puckett went 2-for-4.

DAYTON 3, BELOIT (TWINS) 4:LHP Justin Walker (1-8) started for Dayton and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 6.0 innings (1bb, 5k, 1hr)…the Dragons scored 3 runs on 11 hits (2-for-13 w/RISP, 9 LOB)…RF Cameron Satterwhite paced the offense with 4 hits (2rbi, double)…3b Frank Pfister punched out 3 hits and scored a run…LF Shane Carlson went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.

MINOR LEAGUE NEWS

VOLQUEZ TOMORROW
Cincinnati Reds righty Edinson Volquez will make a rehab start tomorrow for the Lynchburg Hillcats when they host the Potomac Nationals…Volquez is currently on the Reds’ 60-day disabled list after undergoing 8/3/09 “Tommy John” surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and torn flexor mass in his right elbow.    

BOXBERGER: ALL-STAR
Congratulations to Lynchburg’s Brad Boxberger, who yesterday was named to the Carolina League All-Star team…Boxberger is currently 4-5 with a 3.20 ERA in 12 starts…he ranks 9th in the league in ERA and 3rd with a 9.91 strikeout per 9.0 innings ratio…Boxberger, 22, was the Reds supplemental first-round pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft (43rd overall) out of the Univ. of Southern Cal…The California League vs Carolina League All-Star Game will take place on 6/22 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

MEANS BREAKS FINGER
Dayton outfielder Andrew Means on Wednesday suffered a fractured right index finger and will be out indefinitely…Means, 23, was batting .282 with 22 runs 13 RBI and 12 steals in 49 games.
