'LITTLE DARLING, I FEEL THAT ICE IS SLOWLY MELTING'

Howdy folks!

There was good response to the pictures I posted the other day from Goodyear, so I thought I’d ask Better Off Red Chief Arizona Affairs Correspondent and Senior Staff Photographer Rob Butcher to provide us with more.   He graciously supplied just enough to make me never want to see snow again for the rest of my life…

Enjoy!

Goodyear12.JPGNot bad huh?  If that doesn’t make you want to put on a pair of shorts, pour a glass of ice cold lemonade and listen to Marty broadcast the starting lineups, I don’t know what will.

Since Rob is working on a suntan while the rest of us are getting freezer-burned,  don’t you think we deserve a daily photo from Arizona?  I think so, too.  Can you do that for us teeth-chatterers, Rob?

Well, if you haven’t heard, Reds prospect Juan Francisco is pretty good.  This week, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the recently-concluded Dominican Winter League.  In 46 games for Cibao, the 22 year-old Francisco batted .302 with 11 HR, 42 RBI and a .566 slugging percentage.  You’d have to consider him a strong contender for a Reds roster spot  this spring.

And speaking of winter league baseball, congratulations to Pat Kelly who this week was named Manager of the Year in the Puerto Rican League after leading Arecibo to a league-best 25-14 record.

10-Kelly_Pat.jpgKelly, who’ll be managing the Reds Class-A affiliate in Lynchburg this year, has been with the Reds organization for each of the past 3 seasons and has spent over 20 years managing in the minor leagues.  He’ll be dropping by Better Off Red tomorrow to answer a few questions.

Goodness gracious, the Reds Cap Club is growing to epic proportions!  Please welcome the following new members!

It’s been a while since I’ve offered pro bono music advice…

If you’re like me and appreciate good music, you won’t be disappointed in the new OK Go album.  I’ve never traditionally been a fan of the band, but their newest effort is nothing short of fantastic.

I’m also digging that new Field Music record.

Finally, the entire staff here at Better Off Red would like to wish a very happy birthday to a good friend of mine and fellow Reds employee, Corey Hawthorne.

In addition to his commander-in-chief duties for the Reds Heads Kids Club, Corey works for the team as events coordinator.  Did I mention he rocks the frohawk better than anyone in the lower 48?  Well he does, it’s a fact.  Happy 25th, Corey!  Have a good one, buddy!

That’s all for now.  Tomorrow I’ll be posting a Meet the Reds Press edition of Better Off Red I’ll be playing the role of David Gregory and my guests will be Hal McCoy, Mark Sheldon, John Fay and C. Trent Rosecrans.  You’re not going to want to miss it.

As always, thank you so very much for reading.  I genuiniely appreciate it.

In the meantime, be safe, have fun and pursue happiness!  Go REDLEGS!

Jamie

Good post Jamie, although I think I’m going to have to go after that kid from Greenwood, IN who is a Bengals fan living in Colts territory!

Cob,

Thanks for putting up the pics. Keep ‘em coming. I am so ready for some baseball!

The pics from Goodyear look great, but the guy in shorts AND T-shirt looks a little chilly.

How many towns in AZ are taken from the Buckeye State? Besides Goodyear and Buckeye, I know of Miami (east of Mesa on US60).
