SNOW RUNS, SNOW HITS, SNOW ERRORS
Greetings from Great American Snow Park!
The ballpark today at 10 a.m. (left) and again at 2 p.m. (right)
Let me ask you this…
Wouldn’t it be nice to know how each baseball writer voted on his/her Hall of Fame ballot? Do you think this would change the way those nameless scribes voted if their results were made public? Assuming for a second that the results were made public, do you think the writer’s employer (newspaper, web sites, news service, etc.) would make sure, for credibility issues, that he/she didn’t vote for a player who probably isn’t clearly qualified to be in the Hall of Fame? Just something to think about…I think there should be some public accountability but that’s just my opinion.
At some point down the road, I wouldn’t be a surprised to see changes to the way the voting system is conducted.
Today marks a sad date in Reds history…on this date in 1971, Reds outfielder Bobby Tolan underwent surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon. He suffered the injury while playing for the offseason Reds basketball team. Not surprisingly, the front office ordered the Reds cagers to disband the team.
Could you imagine if the Reds today had an offseason basketball team? Here’s how my starting 5 would look: Brandon Phillips at the point, Drew Stubbs at the “2″ guard position, Chris Dickerson at small forward, Bronson Arroyo as the other forward and Aaron Harang as the big man in the center. Coming off the bench would be guard Paul Janish, center Logan Ondrusek (6’7″), forwards Jared Burton and Micah Owings and 3-point specialist Daniel Ray Herrera. Todd Frazier, who once collected a school record 27 rebounds when he played for Toms River South High, would also be an integral member of the team.
Hey folks, don’t forget, if you’d like to be featured on Better Off Red as the newest member of the Reds Cap Club, simply email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) a photo of you wearing your favorite Reds headgear…
Well that’s all for now….I’ll check in with you snowbirds tomorrow. In the meantime, be safe out there!
As always, thanks a bunch for logging on. I sincerely appreciate it.
